When to book your next trim

July 20, 2026

A good trim keeps the outline of your cut intentional, removes worn ends, and makes daily styling easier. The right timing depends on your goals, texture, and how much heat or colour processing you use.

Signs it is time to book

  • Your layers have lost their shape or your fringe is difficult to style.
  • Ends feel rough, tangle more easily, or look thin compared with the rest of your hair.
  • You are spending extra time trying to recreate the movement your cut had when you left the salon.
Regular trims preserve length by stopping small splits from travelling farther up the hair shaft.

Choose a rhythm that fits your style

Short, precision cuts usually benefit from a check-in every four to six weeks. Longer hair, curls, and lived-in layers can often go eight to twelve weeks when they are feeling healthy. If you are growing your hair, tell your stylist—maintenance trims can keep your plan on track without taking away momentum.

Make the appointment work harder

  1. Arrive with a few notes about what has been difficult to style.
  2. Ask which products and techniques will help your shape last.
  3. Pre-book your next cut or styling appointment while the ideal timing is fresh in your mind.
